hongkong pools
There are no doubts about it, summer in Hong Kong can be a humid, sticky nightmare. But if you’re looking for some cooling down and to escape the sweltering heat, there are plenty of hotel swimming pools in the city where you can dive in to a world of blissful calm and breathtaking cityscapes. From The Peninsula’s luxury indoor sand-filled pool to the Ritz Carlton’s glass bottomed 82nd floor pool, here are some of our favourites.
The slick indoor pool at the Ritz Carlton is the closest thing you’ll get to swimming in the clouds (sorry, there’s no actual cloud). With floor to ceiling windows and mirrored ceilings, this sleek indoor pool is the perfect spot to relax with a cocktail or read a book and gaze down upon the busy streets of the Hong Kong skyline below. If you’re feeling like a change of scenery, head to the outdoor Jacuzzi and lounge area situated to the west of the pool for sunset views and some peace and quiet.
If you’re looking for some serious water fun, the Tai Po swimming pool has some of the longest and highest water slides in the city and is one of the most popular public pools among families. There are also lots of fountains and games for kids to splash around in, making this one of the best places for a family swim day in Hong Kong.
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department operates 22 public swimming pools which can be accessed for HK$17 on weekdays and HK$19 on weekends, or for free if you’re above 60 years old, between 3-13 years old, or a full-time student.
Some of the best hotels in Hong Kong feature their own infinity swimming pools, overlooking Victoria Harbour, or even offering spa services, so it’s worth a search to see what options you can find. If you’re planning a stay, you can earn bonus Asia Miles by booking many of these hotels, too.
Aside from being a cool place to relax in the summer, swimming is also beneficial for your health. It improves cardiovascular and respiratory fitness, lowers blood pressure, and reduces stress levels. It can also aid weight loss, help you maintain a healthy body, and boost self-confidence and mood.
The slick indoor pool at the Ritz, the city’s most luxurious hotel, is a stunning place to soak up some sun and swim. There are a number of lounge chairs around the edge of the pool, with windows to sit next to and peer down at the skyscrapers of the ICC below. An outdoor Jacuzzi and pool area, and lounge beds are situated to the west of the pool to catch some sunsets. There are even some spots where you can lie down with a book, enjoying the beautiful view over the city.
